Tam said...Just a thought... does anyone know about Point Whitehorn? There is a new trail, .34 mi in, but an easy access down to beach. Take Grandview road exit 266 (North I-5) Past Ferndale. Take a left onto Grandview. Travel Grandview all the way, almost to end... you might start feeling lost after the road turns passed the refinories, but after the road turns there is a new driveway and trailhead sign on left. If anyone feels like a walk... lots of beach access though! I am planning on heading down tomorrow 10ish am.. does anyone wanna join me? 223.4620Peace and positive thoughts, Tammy Magner (Irving)
I have been tagging my twitter posts with #guntherfrank and #donkeyis anyone else using twitter to communicate about this? hoping for the best...-sarah
I’m sure you all know this already, but just in case, start focusing the search more on the shore lines and even back into the woods. At this point, they most likely will not be in the water. The first crack of dawn they would have been swimming for shore if he saw it. Odds of them being in the water are slim to none. Please check the shore lines and woods. May be hurt and disoriented. I still have my hope and wish I could be there. But I am getting strong doubts about the water search. They have to be on land. Have to be.I've been hearing of so many people searching way out in the water. That is why I posted this.Good Luck and God Bless.
If anyone is searching today and wants help, let me know. (919) 357-2464
Just returned from the day search. Our groups covered the entire Bay shore from town to Lummi Is. Ferry, also had boats out to look around Portage Is. & Lummi Is. shore. We didn't find anything. Many thanks to the Skagit Food Co-op & Boundary Bay for the food. It was really welcome after several hours of climbing around rocks, pilings, jetties etc.
I would like to help too I can be on the beach in the afternoon tomorrow. Does any one know if gunther parents are here in Bellingham?
Gunther and I went to college together. I have some Photos of him I would like to give to his parents. 441-9641
I like the idea that someone posted earlier of asking the coast guard/sheriff's dept if Whatcom Search and Rescue could assist with some of the searching that requires more specialized gear/abilities. There is a wooded canyon along Chuckanut that I think should be searched, because it is accessible by the shore and would have been close to where they may have ended up. I *could* try and repel down this, and probably will try if a Search and Rescue team is not allowed to do so. Stephanie 360-383-6484
Stephanie, My suggestion would be to try and contact them and see what they say... As far as repelling down... I don't know if that is safe or a good idea... can you get there by boat or kayak?
Thank you all so much for your efforts. I am out of the country but will be returning tomorrow to bellingham to help. I can't express how greatful I am to all of you. It is hard being so far away. Luke
The boat parties searched the shorline from around portage island, Hale Passage, and Lummi Island today. We found a life jacket and blue tarp on the east side of Lummi Island. Both were within a half mile. We recovered the life jacket and I will bring it to fairhaven tomorrow at 10am. Maybe somebody remembers what style of life jacket Gunther had on board? This might help us narrow the search effort. Will be back out tomorrow and hope to search the eastern shorlines of Orcas and Cypress island, as well as Sinclair and Vendovi.Joel
This photo might give a good idea of the type of life jackets and other stuff that was on the boat:http://www.flickr.com/photos/guntherjosefrank/275680087/in/set-72157594338918823/
