The families will continue to go out, I will be going out today and tomorrow, I know some of Sean and Gunther's friends that have not given up as well that are continuing to search. It has only been a little over a week. I have friends of mine that are going out tomorrow and some that have told me they will search with me the rest of the week.
For any that are continuing to search please let me know.
Thank you all for all the searching you have done and for those that are continuing to search.
I will be returning to work next week, but this week is still open for me. The marine forecast is for 1-3 ft. waves. You never really know till you get down there. 1-2 foot, OK, 3ft. is a lil much. The "knotty 1" is moored in Fairhaven, and at the service to anyone, for any reason.
According to my research it could be three weeks before they appear. So those that want should keep looking. In my opinion most likely more to the north end of the bay and around the accident site but you just don't know. I will still be looking on my own for the families sake.
i went out today to an area that i had dowsed on google map with my pendulum (near cove road off of chuckanut drive). my husband also went out on a boat to try and get to the north-east side of portage island (the other area the pendulum pointed to), but the water was too choppy to get past the corner. we live on lummi island, i want to offer my assistance, and have been highly accuate once before when finding a missing person. the area near cove road (turn right onto pleasant bay rd) that the pendulum went to is just north up the beach, but the rocks are very steep soft sandstone. i almost got stuck up there today trying to get around the point to the area where i think one of the men is. i spoke with the land owner there, and told him about the situation, and he said it is only accessable around the point with a small boat. i would like to talk with someone who may have a small boat that can take us out to this spot. i didnt know sean or gunther, but quite a few of my friends knew them very well, and i have in the past found a missing person by downsing a map.
hi Kristine, your efforts are really appreciated. Maybe you could get a hold of Jeff Meyers at 223 2327. He has been our water guy in the area. Please find our friends.
This is Steven Mansfield. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has been so dedicated to the search for Sean(my son) and Gunther. Words will never be able to express my appreciation for all of you. So many of you have opened your hearts and souls to the search and it has touched me and all the family in so many ways. I and others are still searching if anyone cares to join us. Thank you all again very very much. Sean and Gunther we very blessed to have so many wonderful friends.
Hi Steven, While I certainly can't speak for everyone, I think many of us feel like we've been doing everything we can for you guys as well, Sean's & Gunther's families. We love our friends and miss them dearly, but I also hope we can help you find some peace and some closure. And I for one want to thank you, and Sean's mom, and Gunther's family as well, for bringing these beautiful men into our lives. These guys were truly and very clearly so, so, SO loved! And that's because they were wonderful, wonderful people. Thank you for sharing your children with us. They continue to be amazing, amazing men!! Much love and peace, Erin Bruce
As of now the marine forcast for Wed. is light. 10kt winds with 1 foot waves. That is good kyak and or small zodiak water. I have been invited to join on a search on Tues. by boat around portage. On Wed. I can check out pleasant bay(by zodiak). I may be in need a a few deck hands. love and peace Jeff.
I retraced the route of the Scumdinger today in a 22 ft Sailboat. Circled Chuckanut Island but couldn't land. Communed with the drying seals, Harlequins and Guillamots. Tried to stay close to the rocks along Clark's point, but the s-westerly waves made for rough going as they bounced off the shore. I did see two searchers earlier in the day onshore. I am inclined to cruise more of the coastline of Chuckanut Bay, and may do so in the next few days. I see no reason to stop looking if so inclined, although I hope there can be some closure in any case eventually. My sense is that guys having a bit of that mystical trickster in them keeps us guessing until we see their corporeal forms.
Don't do it Melissa, Capt Jeff needed a release and I think it is deserved. I want the ones that HE deleted reinstated, what was the matter with those posts, Capt Jeff? a little incoherent perhaps???
i will see you near the east/north side of portage island..... today (tuesday), my friend is taking me out on a boat with a skiff attached so that we can get in close and hike up the coast line. high tide is at noon, and with the sand flats it seems like the best time to get closer to shore. i have your cell number so we can keep in touch by boat, it is my understanding you need to have a native with you to walk around on portage, and you mentioned you would be with one of the native fire chiefs, so i am hoping to see you out there...my friends cell whose boat i will be on is 410-6291. i dowsed the map again this morning and it seems we may need to search the area just south of the north east corner area we spoke of last night. talk to you soon......
Kristine, there have been some other intuitives involved. The one I consulted (and close friends with) pointed to a couple of spots on Portage island. She pointed to north of the island (as you have) and north east of the island (in the water).
I just want to second Nancy's comment. Jeff you have been absolutely amazing and totally steadfast in your devotion to this search. You are an incredible, incredible friend. Your dedication has taught me what being a genuine friend is all about. I have always known you have the biggest heart and this has been proof of that.
Thank you again to everyone involved in this search for our friends. Please remember to take care of yourselves. Be very gentle with yourselves. And give yourself a release when needed!!
also, there is the whole shoreline area between dot island and larrabee park that is all residential. it's not marked with blue indicating that it's been searched. has this area been searched?
I haven't labeled anything as of late. Can you just email me what I need to update so the map is current? I will be able to update it throughout the day.
Jeff- I had a hard time deleting those because they made laugh so hard, but I followed your wishes and did it anyway! It was a creative release and I really appreciated it! I left Nancy's comment as proof and totally agree with both her and Erin! look forward to meeting you!
June 9th, myself, Mike and Jeff, searched the area between Soundview road (off Chuckanut) and Larrabee state park. we walked from Soundview road South... Soundview is north of Cove road.
Hiked the shoreline when we could and charged through brush to get to the water whenever possible. Made tracks all over the large non-residential point north of Larrabee. Took almost four hours to get from Soundview to the park.
Due to bad vantage points, probably were only able to see about 50% of the coast line and could not access the majority of the cliff lines. If this has not yet been done by boat, this area needs to be searched via kayak or powerboat as this zone has many beaches and coves that items could drift into. We do have our whole route mapped via GPS if somebody would like our exact coordinates.
matt - if you want, you can send me your email address and i can add you to the google map where you can add in where you searched. my email is kara@bellinghamcreative.com this map isn't super exact but it gives people a good idea where we are searching.
My heart goes out to all of you. I have been praying my butt off-even though I'm not so religious, being stuck up in alaska, not being able to help sucks. You are all amazing, keep up those spirits-keep smiling. :)
I am also available for the rest of this week during the day to be out on the water. I don't have very much experience being out in a boat but I'm very observant and have a knack for noticing things out of the ordinary.
I don't know if it would be easier for you to call me when you know if you need another person or if I should call you to see if you have room.
Today thanks to the Nooksack tribal council and Mike and Micheele( Captain and daughter)we used there search boat and hit Chukanut bay area including all shoreline down past Pleasant cove. We then headed across to Lummi Is and Portage Is. We had three sets of eyes on the shore at all times. We did see the other 22ft sail out there also. We hit the shoreline by the mouth of the Nooksack and followed the shore back to port. Also as I was leaving the parking lot a man driving out pulling his boat said he was out everyday also looking in similar areas. So if he is reading this thank you very much. I did not know this but please observe safety first on the water in these boats. I was very unaware how shallow some of the water is around Portage and Lummi, without depth sounder it is very dangerous, please be careful if under sail. I know areas were covered today by foot and others going out tonight. Thank you all so much.
Tomorrow weather permitting Jeff and I will be out again. Special thanks to Jeff as he has been my sounding board and shoulder so many times in the last 10 days, a true friend and a great person. Thank you all for your support,,,,Steven Mansfield
I have been keeping up on this blog nearly everyday...I am so sincerely touched by the unbelievealbe amount of love and support and strenght that each of you have shown in the efforts of fiding your friends. I had only met shaun a few times, I knew of him mostly through stories that my Husband has shared about his life in the last 11 years. He is broken hearted and sad that he cannot be there to help...but thank you for setting up a site like this that allows us to feel like we are somehow involved. We have prayed for you and your families and a lot for shaun and gunther and can only hope that all of you find what you are looking for even if it only turns out to be peace....Thank you for loving them so much, and showing everyone especially me that there is still love and humanity in this world. They are so lucky and Im sure so proud of all of you.
I am not sure if anyone has, but my sister has spent many summers in the Skagit Island area and said that people should be looking there and and Padilla bay. I am not in Bellingham anymore so I cannot help look. I thought it might be worth a mention. Good luck to all of you, stay safe.

Hugs to those who have stopped and are grieving!
You are both in your rights and are amazing people of caring so much about these two.
